What will my share include and what size should I pick?
Your share will include the equivalent dollar amount in meat products. Each subscription is for a six month period. The prices are small 495, medium, 625, large, 785, poultry only 390. (A small is about 3/4 of a grocery bag. A medium is a full grocery bag and a large is a bag & a half (Think paper bag) Most couples subscribe to a small or medium. Families usually take a large.
What is actually in the share varies by month and availability. Some months it is bigger, some it is smaller. So if you get steaks and chops one month, the share is smaller. Roasts make for a bigger bag. Here is an example. This is just an example – it varies every month.

SMALL – One chicken, a lb of bacon, a pork shoulder roast, a pound of ground pork, ground beef, two steaks, ground lamb and shoulder steaks.

MEDIUM – Two chickens, a lb of bacon, a pork shoulder roast, 2 lbs ground pork, country ribs, lamb kabob meat, lamb chops, ground lamb, two steaks, ground beef.

LARGE – Two chickens, a lb bacon, pork chops, pork shoulder roast, ribs, lamb roast, ground lamb, shanks, beef roast, ground beef, stew meat.

Grass Versus Grain? Does everyone eat just grass?

No, It varies by animal. All animals are on pasture, all the time, unless they choose to go into a shelter. There are no confined feeding places for any of our meat/egg products. We do everything practical and possible to feed grass over grain! Chickens eat the most grain, maybe 50 to 60% of their diet. But they spend all of their time on pasture, usually in places where produce was previously grown, so a lot of their diet is from ‘foraged’ grains. Chickens, by nature, eat lots of different things. They are not strictly grass animals by nature. Lamb is almost exclusively grass. Mom’s get a little grain during lambing season, and lambs will get a little grain when they are weaned. I would say 95% of their total diet is grass. Beef is also a mix. They are on pasture – lots of pasture, and get some grain as supplement. Their diet is about 70% grass, 30% grain. Pork is mixed. Hogs eat a super varied diet. They don’t, by nature eat just grass. They are true omnivores and eat a mix of grain, grass and foraged vegetation. Hard to say what their intake mix is, but they are on pasture as well.
