Welcome!

This is our farm. We had planned to share photos from the moment of arrival, but the camera died. So, you get to see the progress three weeks into the project. Oh - the work that needs to be done to restore this place! We are farming it for markets this year in a trial plot of about two acres. Next year we have our eyes on a seven acre spot at the top of the farm. It is May 11. 2004.

The first week here we had a nice man come out and till two small fields for us. They were 'in grass' for a long time. For those of you who don't know what 'in grass' means - it is what is planted in any given field. So, you might hear something like, "well, it was in corn last year, but it'll be in beans this year." - just a tidbit, should you ever need to talk crops. Anyway, since the big till we've planted loads of seeds and three weeks later, little plants have popped up. Lots of them are weeds - but there's some good stuff too. You can see that one field wants to stay in grass - we'll let you know how we deal with that problem later this month.

All the photos can be enlarged to view full size. Rich would have typed some stuff but the internet connection is so slow there - you can go from seed to harvest before a page loads. That's all for this week!

A close up of the planted field Rich planting
Field that needs work Big photo of the planted field
Quick and dirty compost bin
The plant enemy - noxious, invasive, nasty weeds - easy with Round Up - much harder since we are growing with organic methods
Not all bad - got a water garden started (thanks to Mum who sent some water plants.) Also - pretty lilac bushes and a really pretty apple tree filled with buzzing bees.
More wonderful scenery - the backyard
